Painting Your Geese
Plastic Geese
1. Prepare the Goose:
Use an all-purpose cleaner or degreaser to remove dirt and grime
Rinse thoroughly with water and allow the goose to dry completely.
If the plastic is new, wipe it down with paint thinner for best results.
Lightly sand the goose with fine-grit sandpaper if they've been painted before.
2. Apply Primer:
Apply a plastic primer designed for outdoor use, like Dulux Duramax Plastic Primer Spray Paint.
Ensure the primer is fully dry before applying the paint.
3. Apply Paint:
Choose a spray paint specifically designed for plastic, such as Krylon Fusion All-In-One or Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover Paint+Prime.
Shake the paint can well before using.
Apply the paint in a well-ventilated area.
Hold the can about 6-8 inches from the Goose and spray in a sweeping motion, with slight overlap.
Apply light, even coats, allowing the paint to dry between coats.
Consider using a satin finish for a more durable and less shiny look.
4. Drying and Curing:
Allow the paint to dry completely according to the paint manufacturer's instructions.
For optimal curing, expose the painted goose to sunlight.
Tips for Success:
Use Painter's Tape: If you want to create a design with multiple colors, use painter's tape to mask off areas.
Clean Thoroughly: Proper cleaning is crucial for paint adhesion.
Apply Multiple Thin Coats: This will help avoid drips and ensure even coverage.
Choose the Right Paint: Use a paint specifically designed for plastic.
Follow Drying Times: Allow the paint to dry and cure fully according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Ventilate Well: Paint in a well-ventilated area to avoid fumes and ensure proper drying.
